|katstevens||10:29 am - Brit Awards 2012 Nominations|
Morning poptimists! The Brit Award nominations are out and as usual there's plenty of dreck involved. But is there any wheat to this chaff?
I have purposely left off the 'DON'T LIKE ANY' option to FORCE you to pick someone. Choose wisely!
Pick your British male solo artist:
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ('solo artist' hmmm)
British Female solo artist:
Florence plus the Machine
British breakthrough act
The Vaccines (hein???)
British Group (try not to cry)
British single (these were picked from sales/airplay stats)
Adele - Someone Like You
Ed Sheeran - The A Team
Example - Changed The Way You Kissed Me
Jessie J Ft B.o.B. - Price Tag
JLS ft Dev - She Makes Me Wanna
Military Wives/Gareth Malone - Wherever You Are
Olly Murs ft Rizzle Kicks - Heart Skips A Beat
One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
Pixie Lott - All About Tonight
The Wanted - Glad You Came
Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
Flo + Machine - Ceremonials
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Aloe 'Vera' Blacc
Bon 'The Engine' Iver
Bruno 'Brookes' Mars
David 'Dave' Guetta
Ryan 'Amusing Middle Name' Adams
Foo Fighters (hilarious)
Jay-Z & Kanye West
Foster The People
On a scale of one to five how fvcked is the British pop music industry?
1 - Dude things are better than they've been for ages eg Adele has sold like a billion records
2 - Yes but she doesn't do dance routines. However Sugababes 1.0 might be reforming?
3 - Yes but Sugababes 4.0 are STILL GOING
4 - As is Jessie J
5 - BLEURGH sorry still vomiting from inclusion of Vaccines above
For those interested, Blur are getting the Lifetime Whatsit and Emeli Sandé has got the Critic's Choice Nonsense Award.
These d00ds are paying even less coherent attention than me!
(^^^Poll is broken: there is no button for WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH)
Aw, I adore the Foo Fighters but they are a daft nomination!
Oops! Didn't mean to reply to you there per se, but FWIW I totally voted for the Foo Fighters too and always would because of "Monkey Wrench".
I have chosen to abstain on Breakthrough Artist due to religious principles regarding the existence of the Vaccines.
I could not comment on several due to either not knowing any of them or hating them all. Why does Jessie J exist again? (In the music industry, I have no problem with her working as an admin or someting.)
also I like lots of songs and the british music being made atm but NONE OF THEM ARE ABOVE? *bleh*
This is the best review of Jessie J ever written.
I tried but honestly could not bring myself to pick a single out of that lot. Egads.
At least I can remember how the One Direction one goes...
I have BIG PROBLEMS with the One Direction but will save my commentary for my top 40 project (just gotta get through Avicii and the Lloyd first)
I have voted for The Vaccines because I heard one of their songs in the pub yesterday and thought it was all right. This may be the way that this entire list of nominations was put together.
*coff* I like the Vaccines! Every song on the album sounds the same. It's very safe young person's indie. I know I'm in the minority here. They might even end up on my top ten albums of 2011! Sad but true.
I came seriously close to picking Jason Status as my best group. Eesh.
Where is Best International Album?
How are we supposed to take these awards consistently when there is no consistency? Although having said that, they used to have Best Pop/ Best Urban, etc. so I guess they never were.
